Published: 13/04/2010The 2010 British Drift Championship kicked off this years drift season, with a two day event at the Stowe Circuit at Silverstone.
In preparation, Mark had spent the previous week making the final changes to the SATS Toyota Supra. The car had been experiencing issues with the power steering in the weeks leading up to the event, and all hopes were pinned on the new setup working flawlessly.
Taking advantage of the extra-long practice sessions, the team were able to test the car before the qualifying session.
Every thing seemed to be working, and so Mark set about his qualifying runs. Putting in two fantastic runs, he qualified in 5th place.
Sunday was competition day, and in the top 32, Mark was up against Tony Fong in his KE70 Toyota Corolla.
In both runs Tony struggled with the first corner, and also whilst chasing Mark, his lack of power was pretty apparent, as Buff sailed off into the distance. Mark took the win and progressed into the top 16.
Next he was up against Shane Lynch, who was not driving his own car due to the fact that it is not yet ready. However, he did put up a good fight against Mark. In a closely contested battle, Mark took both runs.
In the top 8, Mark was pitted against Paul Smith. Leading the first run, Mark put in an impressive drive and took the run 6-4. However, in his second run, as he was chasing he had to force the car to spin to avoid a crash with Smith. This was his downfall, and led to his exit from the competition.
Overall, Mark is happier that he now knows the Supra is performing the way he wants it to, and that all of the development work over the winter has been worth it. He also is happy that the car is competitive enough to take the team into the top 8, and hopes to improve on his placing at the next round.
