Published: 07/06/2009Round 3 of the European Drift Championship was held at the home of British Motorsport, Silverstone. With some amazing weather, record crowds, and plenty of tyre smoke it was a day to remember.
For Mark, the day started off really well, with some breathtaking entries into the first corner at just under 100mph, and a perfect transition to drift the whole way round Luffield flawlessly.
In the top 16, Mark faced Keith Hammond in his R32 Skyline. Both runs saw both drivers give as good as they got, which forced them to run again. In the first run, Mark managed to pull away to give him a 7-3 advantage. The second run saw Mark pull some big angles, and as a result was awarded 6-4 and progressed through to the next run.
The top 8 and Mark was drawn against Alan McCord. Both drivers pulled some big angles, and there was plenty of tyre smoke, but Mark had a slight advantage and was awarded 6-4. In the second run, Mark was chasing, and only just had to stick to McCord's rear to go through. However, being the crowd pleaser that he is, Mark pushed a bit too hard, going wide into Luffield, and as a result McCord was scored 7-3.
After all the calculations, Mark was awarded 6th place. Not the result he wanted, but it will be sure to give him the determination to take a higher placing at the next round.
